About Me

Hi, I’m Gillian Weddle, a self-taught coloured pencil pet portrait artist based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. I create bespoke, realistic pet portraits from photographs, focusing on capturing the subtle details and expressions that make each pet unique.

My journey into art wasn’t traditional. I previously worked as a police officer and during lockdown I returned to drawing as a creative outlet for my mental health. What began as something deeply personal soon became a passion — and ultimately, my practice.

I now work from my garden studio, carefully creating each portrait by hand using professional-quality coloured pencils. Layer by layer, I take time to capture fur, texture, and character, ensuring every piece feels considered and timeless.

Often by my side is Bonnie, my Old English Bulldog and studio assistant, whom I adopted two years ago and who keeps me company throughout the day.

Although I’m based in Hitchin, I create luxury pet portraits for clients across the UK & further afield. Each artwork is made with care and intention, designed to be a lasting keepsake and a celebration of a much-loved companion.
